Question: Why did the Red Guards feel the need to get so violent?
Summary: Mao wanted to inspire a new revolution as he wanted to have a pure form of communism. This action was dominated by youth and resulted in the Little Red Book Movement. Red Guards uprooted people and placed them into different jobs (alike to the Great Leap Forward). The Guards became so violent that PLA had to come in and restore order which ended by 1969.
